Things to do...

Apart from the pool at Lafargue, which is ideal for relaxing by after a day out exploring, there are other pools around. In Cahors there is an outdoor swimming pool with slides, and both Montcuq and Castelnau-Montratier have outdoor municipal pools.

About an hour drive from us is a town called Souillac and here there's a great adventure water park for children called Quercy Land. There are several pools of different shapes and depths, water slides, a children's play area for younger kids and bouncy castles for all with energy spare. This park is just on the edge of the Dordogne River where you can go canoeing for 9km or 28km, depending on how fit you’re feeling.

Canoeing is available in several places on the rivers Lot, Dordogne and Aveyron. Some places offer to drive you up river and you canoe back to your car at your own pace. Others, you just canoe from where you park. If you fancy trying canoeing for the first time then here's a great place to start.

Just outside Montcuq there is a small swimming and pleasure lake with a man-made beach. It's a popular place with our young children. There is also a slightly more commercial lake 30 minutes from us at Montaigu de Quercy, which has some water slides, a raft to swim out to and a play area.

Useful tip – Most swimming pools and water parks insist on males wearing Speedo style swimming trunks and shorts are not allowed! To avoid disappointment, don’t forget to bring yours.

The walks, the pool, the food, everything is exceptional.
